We made a mistake in the game.
ReplyDeleteWe should have aimed each other's RBT right off the bat.
With clear los to each other, 4+ to hit, 4+ to wound, 2 wounds and we would eat 1 RBT.
It's good advice but alas not meant for me. Just recall that I miss 4/6 multi-shots and almost certainly fail to wound with a single shot.
ReplyDeleteThat said, six 4+ to hit multi-shots would require 6s (S4) to wound a T7 bolt thrower. A single shot would be 4+ to hit and 5+ to wound, which seems nigh impossible the way I throw lol.
I will be taking one more RBT out (interesting since I actually started with 4, then 3 and now 2) to buff up my troops (less archers too). Wanna gear towards melee madness seeing that I miss more often than not with my shooting. Sigh.
Oh and if I shot my 10 archers at your RBT, I actually had a higher chance to 'eat' your RBT.
ReplyDelete10 shots at 4+ to hit and still 6s to wound. Two 6s later and I get 100 VPs. Interesting 8th ed rule that nerfs our RBT. "Slaps face"
Being lazy to create one more post, I shall pen my aftergame thoughts here =)
ReplyDelete1. Shooting failed me. DF killed more of his own troops by failed difficult terrain test and sacrificial dagger than by my silver-tipped arrows.
2. As Elves have a high initiative, the spell to stop from the Lore of Shadow is the Miasma which reduces initiative. Didn't see the combo coming! Nice one there.
3. Penumbral Pendulum spell eats warmachines for appetizers, lunch and dessert (auto fail initiative test).
4. Vanguard (DE riders) did not do much and die to return fire. I think Great Eagles are still better, maybe scouting harpies too.
5. Got to remember that unit loses steadfast in terrain (e.g., forest). Thanks to DF for finding that rule!
6. Even with Book of Hoeth, my mage still dies from miscast (against Crazyrat too). Lol. He sucked himself into the warp in Turn 1 after sniping one chariot but against Crazyrat, he purple sun-ed The Big Tree character into a purple stature. Still a killer man!
7. Lothern Seaguard worked well for me as a shooting unit that can rank up (never happened thanks to the forest that tripped Df's Blackguards). Need to use them more.
8. Second mage quite wasted in this game due to Book of Cheese Archmage. Will change him to a Noble with Gem of Hoeth.
9. Swordmasters while killy seems to give free VPs only. Will change them to Dragon Princes or Silverhelms (better saves).
10. Great Eagles or KFCs ftw. Instead of a three piece meal, I am gonna order a family meal (4 to 5 crispy chickens =)

I saw a game at the LGS. The HE side consist of many Sea Guard units, 2 RBT and some Swordmasters. I must say the Sea Guard are really good at shooting. Nothing much left of the enemy once they manage to charge the Elf lines. The Swordmasters are power man! They finished off any survivors.

Hmm, the army sounds like what I am gonna field, except I will use Dragon Princes instead of SM. We shall see lol.

I think the IoB is quite a good deal overall. Lots of nice plastic sculpts in one box :)
